OAED reports rise in registered jobless

The end of the summer tourism season signaled an increase in the number of people registered as unemployed at the Manpower Organization (OAED).

October data showed 35,592 more jobless on the OAED register compared with the previous month, taking the total to 965,985.

There was a decline of 50,192 people in the registered jobless from October 2014, when they had numbered 1,016,177.

The long-term unemployed (i.e. those without a job for more than 12 months) came to 525,019 last month, that is 54.3 percent of the total number of jobless.

There was a monthly decline of 1,594 people in the number of those receiving unemployment benefits.
