The Ionian Islands Regional Authority is optimistic that 2016 will be a good year for tourism and believes that the early signs from bookings are very positive, Spyros Galiatsatos, the regional authority’s vice governor responsible for tourism, told Kathimerini.

He added that the tour operators’ schedules and air seat availability to the western Greek island cluster have increased for 2016 and the British market is already showing an increase of more than 10 percent in bookings.

British Airways and Ryanair have announced an increased in flights to the Ionian islands, and Lufthansa will start a direct air link between Munich and Corfu (pictured) from May 15.
