Betting agencies closed over gambling tax

Betting agencies licensed by OPAP, will be closed across the country on Tuesday as operators go on strike to protest plans for a gambling tax.

There are around 4,500 licensed operators in Greece. Their union called on workers to gather in central Athens on Tuesday morning for a march to Parliament.

The Finance Ministry is planning to levy a tax of 0.05 euros on OPAP's lotteries and sports betting to help raise 300-400 million euros a year for the government, as part of demands by international creditors.
