Plan for revenues authority sees it having less independence

The government may have finally appointed a new general secretary for public revenues, Giorgos Pitsilis, but the Finance Ministry’s plan providing for changes to the general secretariat doesn’t appear to be aimed at making it any more independent.

On the contrary, it allows Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos and his successors to have full access to information on the authority’s activities – i.e. the monitoring and those monitored.

The plan goes against the demands of the country’s creditors for the service that will be renamed the Hellenic Public Revenues Authority (ELADE).
