ATHEX: Bourse ends four-session losing streak, climbs 0.48 pct

After early jitters following the terrorist attacks in Brussels on Tuesday morning, the local stock market ended the session with moderate gains and on the day’s high, thanks to the closing auctions, while trading volume continued to slide.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 544.30 points, adding 0.48 percent to Monday’s 541.70 points and putting an end to a four-session losing streak. The large-cap FTSE 25 index expanded 0.36 percent to end at 147.89 points.

Lamda Development (up 5.91 percent) and Jumbo (5.52 percent) outperformed, as nine out of the 25 blue chips grew by over 2 percent. On the other hand, Viohalco gave up 4.67 percent and Public Power Corporation shrank 2.41 percent.

In total 43 stocks showed gains, 36 posted losses and 22 closed unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 48.4 million euros, down from Monday’s 60.3 million euros.

In Nicosia the general index of the Cyprus Stock Exchange declined 0.89 percent to 67.65 points.
