ATHEX: Index registers monthly gains of 11.7 percent

The benchmark of the Greek stock market recorded a rise of 11.69 percent in March, while the banks index rebounded 30.58 percent and the bourse’s capitalization grew by 5.5 billion euros.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 577.12 points on Thursday, posting a marginal drop of 0.30 percent from Wednesday’s 578.83 points. The large-cap FTSE 25 index contracted 0.27 percent to end at 159.92 points.

Water company EYDAP and Aegean Air outperformed, with gains of 5.65 percent and 3.79 percent respectively. Ellaktor posted the heaviest losses among blue chips, shrinking 9.93 percent. METKA fell 3.97 percent, Eurobank declined 3.83 percent and Piraeus Port Authority dropped 2.03 percent.

In total 50 stocks enjoyed gains, 48 headed south and 19 ended unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 74.1 million euros, down from Wednesday’s 113.8 million.

In Nicosia the general index of the Cyprus Stock Exchange gave up 0.25 percent, to 67.50 points. On Friday the CSE will be closed due to a national holiday.
