TANKERS Active market in the Med., with modern Aframaxes being fixed at W/S 210-215; ’80s-built tonnage is being negotiated around W/S 180-185. – Cont. steady, with the 100,000-ton cargoes out of the Baltic still at W/S 142.5, while Caribs rates, due to lack of inquiry, have moved as low as W/S 125 for 70,000-ton cargo liftings. – Steady conditions on Suezmaxes out of W. Africa, with Sun having fixed M/T «SKS Senne» for 130,000 tons of cargo, loading March 22, discharging USAC, at W/S 120, while Navion for same cargo, loading March 27, discharging US Gulf, has fixed M/T «Wilana» at W/S 117.5. – On VLCCs, Idemitsu has fixed M/T «Akamatsu Maru» for 254,000 tons of cargo, loading Arabian Gulf March 29, discharging Japan, at W/S 100, while Hyundai has fixed M/T «Al Shegaya» for 265,000 tons of cargo, loading March 28, discharging S. Korea, at W/S 97.5. – In the Med., Alpine for 80,000 tons of cargo, loading mid-March Black Sea, discharging Med., has fixed Minerva tonnage at W/S 210. – In the Cont., CSSA for 100,000 tons of cargo, loading March 15 Poland, discharging UKC, has fixed Stentex tonnage at W/S 142.5. – In Caribs, Conoco has fixed M/T «Genmar Constantine» for 70,000 tons of cargo, loading March 8 East Coast Mexico, discharging US Gulf, at W/S 125. – In W. Africa, Repsol has fixed M/T «Somjin» for 130,000 tons of cargo, loading March 21, discharging Spain-US Gulf, at W/S 130 / W/S 122.5, respectively. – In Arabian Gulf, CSSA for 275,000 tons of cargo, loading March 27, discharging USG-UKC, has fixed tanker tonnage at W/S 87.5 – W/S 90, respectively. DRY CARGO Weaker rates in the Capesize market, also expected to fall further due to limited fresh inquiry. Coal Richards Bay / Rotterdam pays under USD 21.00 per ton. AEP has fixed Transfield tonnage for 150,000 tons of cargo, loading beg. April, at USD 20.75 per ton. – A slow trading day for Panamaxes too, with a low volume of fixtures, although Atlantic rates are holding fairly steady. Cosco has fixed M/V «Rosalia d’Amato,» delivery March 2-5 Belgium, trip via India, redelivery China, at USD 55,000 daily. – On T/C periods, Cosco on Capers has fixed M/V «Blue Sky,» 166,013 dwt, built 1983, for 12 months’ trading at USD 50,000 daily, while Worldlink on Panamax has fixed M/V «Nirefs,» 75,311 dwt, built 2001, delivery Japan mid-March, for 1 year’s trading at USD 48,000 daily. – On smaller sizes, Cargill has fixed M/V «Crimson Mars,» 49,500 dwt, built 2002, delivery Skaw March 10, trip via East Coast S. America, redelivery UKC/ Med., at USD 40,000 daily. – On coal cargoes, EDF for 70,000 tons of cargo, loading Baltimore March 15-25, discharging France, has fixed M/V «Sibotura» at USD 20.35 per ton with 35,000-ton load and 25,000 tons discharge.
