ATHEX: Index hits five-month high

For the first time since the Brexit referendum on June 23, the benchmark of the local bourse climbed above 600 points on Thursday on firm corporate data and hopes of a swift end to the second review.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 601.07 points, adding 1.49 percent to Wednesday’s 592.26 points. The large-cap FTSE 25 index expanded 1.79 percent to 1,600.98 points as banks climbed 4.86 percent.

In total 63 stocks advanced, 30 declined and 18 stayed put.

Turnover amounted to 52.7 million euros, up from Wednesday’s 51.9 million.

The general index of the Cyprus Stock Exchange in Nicosia rose 0.71 percent on Thursday to close at 66.63 points.
