ATHEX: Rise continues on bourse, but at slower pace

The benchmark of the Greek bourse headed north on Monday, having spent the entire session in positive territory, although stocks were split down the middle between winners and losers. Although buyers were in the majority, many investors chose to cash in gains recorded over the three previous sessions after the first hour of trading.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 615.83 points, adding 0.64 percent to Friday’s 611.93 points, while as the benchmark has now consolidated itself above the 600-point mark. The large-cap FTSE 25 index expanded 1.01 percent to 1,662.28 points.

Banks reported 2.15 percent growth, with Piraeus grabbing 4.42 percent and Alpha up 3.45 percent. Hellenic Exchanges jumped 5.01 percent and OPAP improved 3.66 percent, while Folli Follie declined 2.75 percent and Jumbo gave up 2.67 percent.

In total 48 stocks registered gains, 48 recorded losses and 17 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 70.3 million euros, down from last Friday’s 82 million.

ATHEX announced that as of next Monday leading consumer products group Sarantis will replace Athens Water Company (EYDAP) in the FTSE 25 index.

In Nicosia the general index of the Cyprus Stock Exchange dropped 1.22 percent to close at 66.24 points.
