TANKERS Stable conditions for the Aframaxes in the Med. and Cont., while Caribs are firming, with 70,000-ton cargo liftings being fixed at W/S 225. – Ursa has fixed M/T «Sanko Quality» for 70,000 tons of cargo, loading March 24, discharging US Gulf, at W/S 225. – Suezmax rates are firming in all areas, with tonnage out of W. Africa being fixed at W/S 165 with destination USAC, while Enap with destination Chile has fixed M/T «Wilma Yangtze» at W/S 185. – VLCCs rates from the same area are improving too. For destinations West, rates are hovering around W/S 125, for East, W/S 97.5. – N. Sea rates catching up to W. Africa. Last fixture for a 135,000-ton cargo at W/S 175 with destination East Coast Canada. – On VLCCs out of Arabian Gulf, Shell for 275,000 tons of cargo, loading April 10, discharging UKC/Med., has fixed M/T «Provence» at W/S 112.5, while NGT for 265,000 tons of cargo, loading April 5, discharging Japan, has fixed M/T «Pacific Beauty» at W/S 113.5. – In the Med., Tupras for 78,000 tons of cargo, loading March 23 Libya, discharging Turkey, has fixed Histria tonnage at W/S 185. – In the Cont. and on Suezmaxes, Hess has fixed M/T «Genmar Sky» for 135,000 tons of cargo, loading April 6, discharging St Croix, at W/S 155. – In Caribs, BP has fixed M/T «Genmar Minotaur» for 70,000 tons of cargo, loading March 17, discharging US Gulf, at W/S 185. – In W. Africa, Hess has fixed M/T «British Hunter» for 130,000 tons of cargo, loading April 3, discharging Caribs, at W/S 165. DRY CARGO Increased freight rates for Capers and Panamaxes. Particular indices are moving upward. On March 9, Capers index gained 47 points, totaling 6,729, while the Panamax index has gained 72 points, totaling 5,436. – On Capers in Far East, Samsun has fixed M/V «Cape Osprey,» 161,448 dwt, built 1995, delivery China March 11-12, trip via Malaysia, redelivery UKC, at USD 60,000 daily, while in Atlantic, Transfield has fixed M/V «Shibumi,» 166,058 dwt, built 1984, delivery UKC mid-March, trip via Brazil, redelivery China, at USD 75,000 daily. – On Panamax in Far East, Daeyang has fixed M/V «Ocean Eagle,» 74,082 dwt, built 2001, delivery Taiwan March 15-16, trip via Indonesia, redelivery S. Korea, at USD 46,000 daily. – In Atlantic, Keoyang has fixed M/V «An Angel Omonia,» 73,519 dwt, built 1996, delivery end-March Passero, trip via USAC, redelivery S. Korea, at USD 53,500 daily. – On smaller sizes, Pan Ocean has fixed M/V «Coral Gem,» 45,320 dwt, built 1995, delivery Japan March 21-25, redelivery Far East, at USD 31,000 daily. – On coal cargoes, AEP for 150,000 tons of cargo, loading S. Africa April 1-15, discharging Rotterdam, has fixed Swiss Marine tonnage at USD 24.50 per ton with two-day load and 25,000 tons discharge.
