Tourism soars on Santorini in October

This year has been a particularly good one for tourism on Santorini, as, in addition to the increase in foreign arrivals, the season was extended, according to the island’s mayor.

Nikos Zorzos told a press conference on Tuesday that international air arrivals at Santorini Airport last month were 34 percent up on October 2015 and four times the number that arrived by plane in the same month in 2011.

However, he also spoke of excessive construction on the Cycladic island, saying the number of beds per square kilometer on Santorini – 990 – is only comparable with that of Attica.
