ATHEX: Stock index holds its ground in quiet trade

All in all it was a quiet session at the Greek bourse on Tuesday, as it seems quite a few investors decided to stay away and wait for news from the Euro Working Group. Most stocks posted small losses but the benchmark rose a tad after the closing auctions.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 628.26 points, adding 0.06 percent to Monday’s 627.91 points. The large-cap FTSE 25 index contracted 0.26 percent to close at 1,683.97 points, while small-caps rebounded 1.79 percent.

Banks outperformed the blue chip index, slipping just 0.13 percent, with Alpha rising 3.35 percent and Attica climbing 2.33 percent. Eurobank conceded 4.09 percent, Piraeus dropped 2.02 percent and National lost 1.65 percent.

Jumbo soared 6.15 percent, while Grivalia Properties slumped 3.17 percent.

In total 41 stocks registered gains, 54 posted losses and 15 closed unchanged.

Turnover was the lowest of the last six sessions, amounting to 40 million euros, down from Monday’s 51.5 million.

In Nicosia the general index of the Cyprus Stock Exchange advanced 1.75 percent to close at 66.78 points.
