August sees billion euro uptick in unpaid taxes
August saw the addition of more than one billion euros in new tax arrears, bringing the total amount of new unpaid debt to the state to more than 8.5 billion this year.
This brings the total of overdue debt, when including the legacy debt of previous years, to 98.23 billion, despite the fact that more than 3 billion euros in taxes has been received by the state so far this year.
The number of taxpayers with outstanding debts to the state dropped by more than 100,000 in August and now stands at 3,857,086.
