ATHEX: Local bourse unable to get out of the rut

Turnover at the Greek bourse remained disappointingly low and stocks continued to display a lack of direction on Monday as the week began with another mixed session. The benchmark only managed to avoid posting a drop on the day in the closing auctions, but losing stocks outnumbered the gainers.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 724.39 points, adding 0.17 percent to Friday’s 723.18 points. The large-cap FTSE-26 index rose 0.48 percent to 1,889.73 points, while small-caps fell 0.56 percent.

Banks fared slightly better, with their index growing 0.51 percent: Alpha Bank rose 2.08 percent and Eurobank advanced 1.23 percent, while Piraeus slipped 0.99 percent, National shrank 1.65 percent and Attica lost 2.17 percent.

Folli Follie slumped 3.40 percent, as Lamda Development improved 2.15 percent.

Mid-cap Hygeia Group added another 4.44 percent to its limit-up on Friday, while its main stakeholder Marfin Investment Group gave up 1.11 percent.

In total 46 stocks recorded gains, 56 registered losses and 17 remained unchanged. Turnover amounted to 28.9 million euros, just up on last Friday’s 28.8 million.

In Nicosia the Cyprus Stock Exchange general index declined 0.37 percent to 70.90 points.
