ATHEX: Benchmark grows for a seventh day

The seventh consecutive session of gains for the benchmark of the Greek stock market on Friday confirmed the positive momentum as it was in the latter half of the day that buyers made their presence felt, boosting banks by another 4.75 percent.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 748.66 points, adding 1.14 percent to Thursday’s 740.20 points. On a weekly basis it advanced 3.52 percent.

The large-cap FTSE-26 index expanded 1.41 percent to 1,947.78 points, while small-caps contracted 0.34 percent.

The banks index rose for the sixth session in a row to take its total rise to 19.46 percent. This was despite Attica Bank’s 28.57 percent decline, which was due to the upcoming share capital increase. Eurobank jumped 7.35 percent, Piraeus followed with a 7.20 percent rise, National ascended 5 percent and Alpha grew 3.07 percent.

In total 61 stocks posted gains, 52 took losses and 23 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 68.8 million euros, down from Thursday’s 92 million.

In Nicosia the Cyprus Stock Exchange general index declined 0.51 percent to 70.84 points.
