Mytilineos to become new SEV president

Evangelos Mytilineos, owner of the Athens-listed Mytilineos Group of metallurgical companies, is the proposal of the Executive Committee of the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises (SEV) for the new president of the country’s most influential employers’ association.

The proposal will be submitted to SEV’s annual general meeting in May 2018. It signals the dynamic return of heavy industry to the helm of the historic association in terms of highlighting the role that industry can play in the necessary restructuring of production in Greece.

The role of heavy industry and whether it is promoted by SEV have been contentious issues that even led to a rift in the association, with the creation in April this year of a nonprofit company called “Hellenic Production – Council of Industries for Growth,” which saw the grouping of some of the country’s most dynamic exporters as well as big names in the manufacturing sector.
