ATHEX: Benchmark sees minor gains

The main index of the Greek bourse stopped its southward course on Thursday – but only just – in a mixed session with low trading volume and the majority of stocks (including banks) heading lower.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 728.76 points, adding 0.17 percent to Wednesday’s 727.53 points.

The large-cap FTSE-26 index contracted 0.08 percent to 1,896.66 points, while mid-caps expanded 0.55 percent.

The banks’ index slid 0.51 percent, with Attica falling 9.68 percent and Eurobank losing 2.03 percent.

In total 45 stocks advanced, 52 declined and 14 stayed put.

Turnover was the lowest of the last eight sessions, amounting to 33.9 million euros, down from Wednesday’s 48.3 million.

In Nicosia the Cyprus Stock Exchange general index dropped 0.11 percent to 71.34 points.
