Agreement to boost Greek food exports to the US by 2023

A deal signed in Athens on Monday aims to double Greek food exports to the US in the next five years.

The three-year cooperation agreement signed by the TradeUSA department of the American Hellenic Chamber of Commerce and the Specialty Food Association (SFA) of the US focuses on educating Greek food and drink enterprises and helping them link up with US food retailers.

“Dramatic changes are being observed in the behavior of US consumers. I believe there is an incredible opportunity for Greek food due to the swing in favor of the Mediterranean diet,” SFA head Phil Kafarakis told a press conference on Monday.

The president of the Greek International Business Association (SEVE), Kyriakos Loufakis, said that the value of Greek food and drink exports to the US in 2016 amounted to $314.79 million, up 9.59 percent from the year before.
