TANKERS Aframax rates in the Med. are holding above W/S 200, while the Suezmax market is very active with rates above W/S 160. – Alpine for 135,000 tons of cargo, loading July 20, discharging Med., has fixed M/T «Aegean Lady» at W/S 157.5, while Petroval has fixed M/T «Aegean Eagle» at same levels. – Quieter conditions in the N. Sea and Caribs with rates holding at W/S 155 and W/S 190 for 100,000-ton and 70,000-ton cargoes respectively. – Suezmax market in the Med., as reported, is very active, with tonnage thinning out in the area. – N. Sea market is low, while the W. African is at steady rates and above W/S 160. – Sun for 130,000 tons of cargo, loading July 27, discharging USAC has fixed M/T «Poetic» at W/S 163.5, while the same charterers have fixed M/T «Genmar Conquerer» at W/S 162.5. – On VLCCs, Concord has fixed M/T «Front Lady» for 260,000 tons of cargo, loading July 18, discharging Thailand, at W/S 127.5, while Marathon for 270,000 tons of cargo, loading July 19, discharging US Gulf, has fixed M/T «Front Ace» at W/S 100. DRY CARGO Caper rates in the East are firmer, though fewer ships are reportedly being fixed. – Bocimar has fixed M/V «Marina,» 151,053 dwt, built 1995, delivery July 1 China trip via S. Africa, redelivery Ireland at USD 35,000 daily, while Glory Wealth has fixed M/V «Mona Lisa,» 146,939 dwt, built 1986, delivery China for Australian round-trip voyage at USD 31,000 daily. – Atlantic rates also are stronger but with less activity according to brokers. Cargill has fixed M/V «Aqua Glory,» 171,015 dwt, built 2003, delivery Rotterdam trip via Colombia, redelivery UKC at USD 42,000 daily. – Higher rates for Panamaxes too, with brokers expecting levels of USD 25,000 daily for lME types with destinations East. – In the Atlantic, Navios has fixed M/V «Flipper,» 73,726 dwt, built 1999, delivery Passero end June trip via US Gulf, redelivery Far East at USD 26,000 daily. – In Far East, Noble has fixed M/V «Pina Cafiero,» 75,688 dwt, built 2002, delivery end June Japan trip via USAC, redelivery Japan at USD 21,000 daily. – On smaller sizes, Norden has fixed M/V «Navios Achilles,» 52,055 dwt, built 2001, delivery Japan July 1-5 for 4-6 months’ trading at USD 21,000 daily. – On ore cargoes, Cetragpa for 70,000 tons of cargo, loading July Brazil 5-15, discharging Belgium, has fixed at USD 12.50 per ton with four days all purposes.
