TANKERS A very interesting day for Aframaxes in the Mediterranean, with rates increasing to W/S 320, while the Cont. remains flat with latest fixtures around W/S 145. – Caribs steady with few fixtures for 70,000-ton cargoes, at W/S 350. – A very quiet day for Suezmaxes too in all areas. – In West Africa, rates have dropped significantly around W/S 185 for both Mediterranean and US Gulf destinations. – In the Mediterranean, latest fixtures less than W/S 200 for either Sidi Kerir or Novo loading areas. – Janorch has fixed M/T «Maratha» for 80,000 tons of cargo, loading December 28 Black Sea, discharging Mediterranean, at W/S 280. – In the Cont., CSSA for 80,000 tons of cargo, loading December 25 for UKC round-trip voyage, has fixed M/T «Petropavlosk» at W/S 145. – In Caribs, Premcor has fixed M/T «Overseas Shirley» for 70,000 tons of cargo, loading December 23, East Coast Mexico, discharging US Gulf, at W/S 350. – In West Africa, Petrobras has fixed M/T «Genmar Zoe» for 130,000 tons of cargo, loading December 25, discharging Brazil, at W/S 252,5. – In Arabian Gulf, S. Oil for 265,000 tons of cargo, loading January 5, discharging Korea, has fixed M/T «Heibei Mountain» at W/S 287.5. DRY CARGO A very slow day, with very little reported as fixed. – Indexes for Capers and Panamaxes have reacted accordingly. – Capers index lost 215 points, totaling 8,243, while the Panamax index has lost 152 points, totaling 5,335. – On Capers, Coeclerici has fixed M/V «Paschalis D,» 170,188 dwt, built 2002, delivery December 22-23 Japan, trip via Australia and Romania, redelivery Passero, at USD 65,000 daily. – On Panamax in Far East, PCL has fixed M/V «Torm Tekla,» 69,268 dwt, built 1993, delivery China December 20-22, redelivery Japan, at USD 42,500 daily. – In Atlantic, Augustea has fixed M/V «Miltiadis II,» 72,493 dwt, built 1999, delivery end of December Spain, for two laden legs, redelivery Far East, at USD 44,000 daily. – On smaller sizes, NYK has fixed M/V «Athinoula,» 42,842 dwt, built 1985, delivery US Gulf December 24-30, redelivery Far East, at USD 44,000 daily.
