TANKERS Very quiet conditions in the Mediterranean with prompt Aframaxes around. Rates are heading to W/S 100 for the cross 80,000-ton cargoes. – BP has fixed M/T «Seaborn,» loading Algeria beg. August, discharging Mediterranean, at W/S 105. – North Sea is quiet too, with the 100,000-ton cargoes out of Baltic hovering around W/S 115 while Petrogal has fixed M/T «Livia,» loading Norway August 4-5, discharging Portugal, at W/S 112.5. – In Caribs, Conoco has fixed M/T «Helga Spirit» for 70,000 tons of cargo, loading July 23 East Coast Mexico, discharging US Gulf, at W/S 195, while BP, for same cargo, loading July 26, with same destination, has fixed M/T «Nord Stealth» at W/S 177.5. – On Suezmaxes, rates in the Mediterranean, are around W/S 100 irrespective of loading areas, while in West Africa the 130,000-ton cargoes are fixed at W/S 110 with destination USAC, and provided the fresh inquiry continues, rates soon will be W/S 120. – On VLCCs out of Arabian Gulf, Hyundai has fixed M/T «Astro Lyra» for 270,000 tons of cargo, loading August 14, discharging South Korea, at W/S 105, while KPC has fixed M/T «Yomaral» for 280,000 tons of cargo, loading August 6, discharging US Gulf, at W/S 82.5. DRY CARGO Another slow trading day on Capers, with Swiss Marine having fixed M/V «Mercedes,» 133,357 dwt, built 1981, delivery Singapore, trip via South Africa, redelivery UKC, at USD 8,000 daily. – The outlook for Panamaxes remains gloomy too in both areas. – Short period rates in Far East have dropped again, with lME type fixed for 3-5 months’ trading at USD 15,000-16,000 daily. – The Atlantic market also remains very slow with operators/owners facing a very difficult market. – Grandocean has fixed M/V «Audax» 75,220 dwt, built 2001, delivery Brazil, redelivery China, at USD 18,500 daily and USD 475,000 ballast bonus. – On Panamax in the Far East, Corus has fixed M/V «Ascanius,» 76,878 dwt, built 2004, delivery Japan end July, trip via Canada, redelivery UK, at USD 9,000 daily. – In the Atlantic, Cargill has fixed M/V «Fujian,» 75,300 dwt, built 1996, delivery France July 21-23, trip via East Coast South America, redelivery UKC-Mediterranean, at USD 14,500 daily. – On smaller sizes, IVS has fixed M/V «Enforcer,» 45,500 dwt, built 1982, delivery South Africa August 1-10, redelivery Mediterranean, at USD 13,000 daily.
