TANKERS Mediterranean market with greater activity, with fresh inquiry, mainly out of the Black Sea. Rates are already reported at W/S 112.5, while the last known fixtures are in the range of W/S 100-105 for 80,000-ton cargoes. – North Sea more active, with a number of trans-Atlantic deals. The 100,000-ton cargoes out of Primorsk are still being fixed at W/S 105, while on 80,000-ton cargoes, Murphy has fixed M/T «N. Torinita,» loading August 8-10 UK, discharging UKC, at W/S 100. – In Caribs, rates are lower than were last done. – Ursa has fixed M/T «Zirku» for 70,000 tons of cargo, loading August 3 Panama, discharging US Gulf, at W/S 167.5, while BP, for same cargo, loading August 3 Colombia, with same destination, has fixed M/T «Shetland Spirit» at W/S 170. – On smaller sizes, Conoco, for 50,000 tons of cargo, loading July 27, discharging USAC-US Gulf, has fixed M/T «Ikaros» at W/S 250. – Suezmax rates also are moving upward. Sun out of West Africa, in replacing a VLCC cargo, has fixed two Suezmaxes for 130,000 tons of cargo each at W/S 130. – In the Mediterranean, due to activity out of the Black Sea, rates have moved to W/S 120. – On VLCCs out of West Africa, rates at W/S 85 and W/S 75 for West and East destinations respectively. – In the Mediterranean and on Aframaxes, OMV, for 80,000 tons of cargo, loading end-July Libya, discharging Italy, has fixed M/T «Delta Captain» at W/S 105. – On Suezmaxes, Irving has fixed M/T «SCF Caucasus» for 135,000 tons of cargo, loading July 28 UK, discharging East Coast Canada, at W/S 100. – In the Cont., Repsol has fixed M/T «British Cormorant» for 80,000 tons of cargo, loading August 6 UK, discharging Spain, at W/S 105. – In West Africa, OMV, for 130,000 tons of cargo, loading August 9, discharging Italy, has fixed M/T «Genmar Phoenix» at W/S 110. DRY CARGO Outlook remains gloomy on Capers and Panamaxes. – In Far East and on Capers, BHP Billiton has fixed M/V «Alpha Era,» 170,397 dwt, built 2000, delivery China Aug. 4, for Australian round-trip at USD 21,000 daily. – Same charterers have fixed M/V «Cape Saturn,» 175,000 dwt, built 2003, delivery China July 24-25, for Australian and Suez round-trip voyage, redelivery Atlantic, at USD 20,000 daily. – On Panamaxes in Far East, Cargill has fixed M/V «Genco Beauty,» 73,600 dwt, built 1999, del. China Aug. 1-3, redelivery Far East, at USD 10,750 daily. – In Atlantic, Sinochart has fixed M/V «Patya Bulker,» 75,926 dwt, built 2004, delivery Brazil beg. Aug., redelivery Far East, at USD 19,000 daily and USD 425,000 ballast bonus.
