Merchant Marine Minister Manolis Kefaloyiannis…

Merchant Marine Minister Manolis Kefaloyiannis (right) is greeted aboard Highspeed 5, the latest addition to Hellenic Seaways’ fleet of passenger ferries, by its president Gerasimos Strintzis yesterday. He later said about 5 million passengers have sailed from Piraeus so far this summer season. Sources said Kefaloyiannis may announce a set of qualitative criteria next week for the selection of vessels to be deployed on the so-called ‘unprofitable’ subsidized routes, which commercial operators are largely reluctant to serve. ‘The government guarantees transport safety and ensures not only seaworthiness but also quality in coastal shipping,’ he said.
