Concierges of the world, unite!

Athens played host to the 49th International Congress of «Les Clefs D’Or» (The Golden Keys), the organization that brings together concierges from all over the world, from February 9 to today. It is the second such conference to be held in Athens, with the first taking place in February 1967. «It went very well. It was a success,» Emmanouil Vrettos, the Greek union’s general secretary, told Kathimerini’s English Edition last night. «We had about 300 delegates from 35 member countries. The aim of the conference was for them to get to know the city of Athens, and Greece, of course. It was aimed to show off our tourist sites and what we have, and to showcase the work that is being done in view of the Olympics,» Vrettos said. «We placed emphasis on the conference being one of peace, friendship and brotherhood, seeing as it is our first conference of the third millennium,» he said. The respective outstanding parts of housing and consumer loans rose 24.7 percent to 1.572 billion (4.6 million euros) and 42 percent to 339.7 billion drachmas in 2001 (997 million euros). Provisions for bad debts represented only 2 percent of new loans, which is near the European Union average.
