Former prime minister Constantine Mitsotakis (l), who met with fellow New Democracy cadre and current Economy Minister Giorgos Alogoskoufis (r) yesterday, said the government’s economic reforms are aimed in the right direction but need to be accelerated as ‘things are difficult.’ He said a tax on short-term profits from stock market trading was urgently needed in order to discourage speculative games. On Monday, Alogoskoufis warned that the Athens Stock Exchange’s current bull market should not make investors forget the losses suffered when the market collapsed in 1999-2000.
