Volkswagen sales surge in Romania

BUCHAREST (SeeNews) – Porsche Romania, the exclusive distributor of German Volkswagen group in the Southeastern European country, said yesterday its sales surged by 84.3 percent last year to a record high 32,450 cars, thanks to the rising number of its dealers and improving post-sales services. Sales of Skoda cars almost doubled to some 14,800 units last year, marking the highest growth among the brands the company sells, Porsche Romania said in a statement. The best-selling Skoda model was Octavia II, with 4,654 units sold in 2005. SEAT sales also jumped by 95.1 percent in 2005 to 2,927 cars due to the increasing popularity of the brand in the country. The Ibiza model was the best selling SEAT car in Romania with 1,215 units. Porsche Romania’s sales of Volkswagen cars rose by 82.6 percent in 2005 to 11,198 units. The company also sold 88 cars of the sport brand Porsche last year, up 31.3 percent on the year. Sales of Audi cars rose by 40.5 percent to 1,300 units. The company is part of Porsche Holding, one of Europe’s biggest vehicle distributors.
