The dean of Latin American ambassadors, Argentina’s Raul Alberto Ricardes (third left), and other Latin American colleagues with Deputy Foreign Minister Evripidis Stylianidis (second right) before yesterday’s dinner at the launching of the Greek-Latin American Business Council in Athens. ‘The setting up of the council is part of the good preparations necessary for the planned opening of Greek economic diplomacy in Latin America in 2007,’ said Stylianidis. Ricardes said the strengthening of cooperation with the European Union and individual members is timely after the consolidation of democracy and human rights in Latin America. The newly founded council is chaired by Constantinos Antonopoulos, managing director of gaming system firm Intralot which has operations in Chile and Peru. Only 0.6 percent of Greek exports went to Latin America in 2004, while 1.5 percent of imports originated there.
