Intralot extends its lucky hand to Moldova

Gaming systems operator Intralot said yesterday it will offer Lotto betting games via phone text messaging in Moldova in a deal with Moldcell, an affiliate of Turkish mobile operator Turkcell. Intralot, the world’s third-largest lottery supplier by revenues, said its Moldovan subsidiary Loteria Moldovei signed the deal with Moldcell. Intralot has a similar agreement with Moldova’s leading mobile operator Voxtel, which holds a 64 percent market share. The companies plan to offer other betting games in Moldova shortly, Intralot said in a statement. Loteria Moldovei now offers lottery, fixed odds betting and video lottery games in Moldova. «The undertaking of this new project is one more step toward the expansion of our cooperation with Turkcell in other countries too,» Intralot Chief Executive Constantinos Antonopoulos said in the statement. Intralot has operations in 32 countries. Foreign activities accounted for 77 percent of its sales in the first nine months of 2005. Separately, the daily Imerisia reported that Intralot’s parent company, Intracom, has asked for two more weeks to decide on an option to buy a minority stake in Turkish mobile operator Telsim.
