Serbia’s growth rises

BELGRADE (Reuters) – Serbia’s economy expanded by 6.3 percent in the first quarter of 2006, making the government’s plan for 7 percent full-year growth achievable, Finance Minister Mladjan Dinkic said yesterday. Statistics office data showed Serbia’s gross domestic product grew by 6.3 percent in January-March this year, compared with a 5.6 percent rise in the same period 2005. «The 6.3 percent growth in the first quarter means that we can expect the economy to grow close to 7 percent this year,» the Serbian finance minister told a news conference.
