TANKERS Quiet start after the Easter holidays. – Rates in the Med. are holding at W/S 125 and W/S 87.5 for modern Aframax and Suezmax respectively. – Cont. seems quiet with inadequate inquiry and rates for 80,000-ton cargoes around W/S 100. – Caribs appear more active with a rise in the amount of fixtures but no better than W/S 107.5 for the 70,000-ton cargo liftings. – In W. Africa, Sun has fixed at W/S 72.5 for 130,000 tons of cargoes with destination USAC, while owners for month-end loadings are asking W/S 75 – 77.5. – In the Med., Petrogal for 80,000 tons of cargo loading April 10 Algeria, discharging Portugal, has fixed Enalios tonnage at W/S 110. – In the Cont., Dow has fixed M/T «Alfa Germania» for 80,000 tons of cargo loading April 9 for a round voyage at W/S 94. – In Caribs, Chevron has fixed M/T «Lucky Lady» for 70,000 tons of cargo loading April 2 East Coast Mexico, discharging USAC, at W/S 100. – In W. Africa, Sun for 130,000 tons of cargo loading April 23, discharging USAC, has fixed M/T «Front Maple» at W/S 72.5. DRY CARGO Market is trying to return to the pre-Easter holiday atmosphere, while a number of fixtures have appeared. – M/V «Arethousa» 171,900 dwt, built 1999, with delivery Taiwan for a trip via Australia, redelivery China, has been fixed at the impressive level of USD 14,000 daily. – On Panamax, Atlantic maintains recent levels, while Far East remains comparatively quiet. – Handies and Handymaxes still looking active. The 1990 46,000 dwt M/V «Moorgate» chose to book a trip from the Continent to the US Gulf with Combac at USD 6,250 daily, rather than take the USD 9,000 daily which was on offer from Seals for their 50-day trip to the East. – On Panamax in Far East, Pan Ocean has fixed M/V «Silvergate» 68,200 dwt, built 1987, delivery China April 1-5 for 3-5 months period at USD 7,000 daily. – In Atlantic, Cosbulk has fixed M/V «Yong Ler» 74,500 dwt, built 2001, delivery France mid-April trip via Baltic redelivery China at USD 10,300 daily.
