ASE recovery continues despite a slow start
Stocks gained yesterday on the Athens Stock Exchange, overcoming a sluggish start. The ASE composite share index closed at 4,556.62 points, a gain of 23.27 points or 0.51 percent. On a weekly basis, it gained 4.12 percent. It has gained 3.70 percent since January 1. The FTSE/Athex 20 index of blue chips gained 0.63 percent to close at 2,461.50 points, while mid-caps and small-caps gained 0.47 percent and 0.76 percent, respectively. The FTSE/Athex International gained 0.61 percent, closing at 6,507.20 points. Eleven of 17 sectoral indices gained. The top gainers were utilities (up 2.26 percent), travel and leisure (2.13 percent) and health (2.07 percent). The top losers were personal and household goods (down 1.27 percent), commerce (1.22 percent) and telecommunications (1.00 percent). Among blue chips, the top gainers were betting company OPAP (higher 2.73 percent to -28.58), EFG Eurobank (2.33 percent to -28.98), electricity company PPC (2.33 percent to -20.24), construction group Hellenic Technodomiki (2.21 percent to -11.10) and ATEbank (2.08 percent to -3.92). Top losers were jewelry and accessories maker and retailer Folli-Follie (less 2.95 percent to -26.30) and cement maker Titan (1.83 percent to -41.92). Turnover reached -349.19 million, including -44.81 million in prearranged trades.
