Athens bourse rebounds strongly after shaky start

Mobile operator CosmOTE outperformed yesterday after releasing first-quarter subscriber figures as the benchmark stock index rebounded from oversold levels. Brokers said a combination of healthy subscriber growth and a technical rebound sparked buying in CosmOTE after it reported a 34.6-percent year-on-year subscriber increase in the first quarter to 3.075 million. CosmOTE jumped 3.81 percent to 9.82 euros while telecoms gained 1.16 percent. The Athens benchmark general index gained 1.62 percent to 2,222.71 points after getting off to a shaky start. Banks advanced 1.72 percent and National Bank rose 1.86 percent to 20.80 euros. The FTSE/ASE-20 index of blue chips gained 1.61 percent to 1,176.77 points. The FTSE/ASE-40 index of mid-caps gained 1.29 percent and small-caps added 1.59 percent. Total turnover was 114.49 million euros on volume of 20.7 million shares. Winners beat losers 288 to 48 with 26 unchanged on 362 traded. (Reuters) Metrosoft Informatics, a member of the Byte Computer group, will distribute IBM printers in Greece, according to a statement yesterday. The deal concerns the Laser Workgroup, IBM Impact Serial, Line Matrix and Thermal series of printers.
