Germanos to offer OTE’s fixed services

Germanos, the mobile phone accessory and consumer electronic product retailer, said yesterday it has signed an agreement with telecom operator OTE allowing it to offer the latter’s fixed telephony services in its outlets in Greece. Yiannis Karayiannis, managing director at Germanos, said customers will be able to purchase fast-speed integrated service digital network (ISDN) and the slower public switch telephone network (PSTN) connections as well as digital phone services from one of its 263 stores countrywide. He said digital phone services available include a personal answering service, call diverting and waiting, and call recognition. «Our goal is to make Germanos a one-stop buying [center] for customers,» he said. Athanasios Gitzenis, OTE business manager, said the company aims to sell 160,000 ISDN connections this year, up from 110,000 last year. The service allows data to be downloaded at a speed of between 64 to 128 kilobits per second. OTE services are also available from its own network of 381 outlets, 20 OTEShops and by calling 134 or logging onto OTEShop’s website. Germanos’s Romanian subsidiary early this month signed a cooperation pact in fixed telephony with Rom Telecom, in which OTE holds a 35-percent stake.
