Fresh slide takes index below 4,900 points
A second day of decline marked the Athens bourse yesterday, although stocks managed to recover most of the ground lost over the course of the session. The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index lost 0.26 percent points and closed at 4,891.86, down from 4,904.58 points on Monday. The FTSE/ATHEX 20 blue chip index dropped 0.06 percent to 2,610.39 points. The FTSE/ATHEX Mid-40 declined 0.77 percent and the FTSE/ATHEX 80 small-cap index fell by 0.98 percent. The FTSE/ATHEX International lost 0.20 percent to close at 6,976.46 points. OPAP outperformed other blue chips with a 2.38 percent rise, ahead of Emporiki Bank (up 1.18 percent), Piraeus Bank (1.16 percent) and ATEbank (1.08 percent). The biggest losses were for Coca-Cola HBC (down 2.39 percent), Titan (1.96 percent), PPC (1.61 percent), the Postal Savings Bank (1.20 percent) and OTE (1.01 percent). Only four sectoral indices avoid moving southward, led by travel and entertainment (up 1.53 percent) and health (0.23 percent). Worst off were the indices of insurance (down 3.94 percent), financial services (2.13 percent), food and drink (1.89 percent) and construction (1.65 percent). Turnover reached -356.02 million, of which -83.98 million concerned block trades.
