Blue chips decline but mid-caps stay afloat
The international bearish mood brought a fresh decline on the Greek bourse, with very little buying interest expressed for the majority of stocks on the local market. The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index shed 0.69 percent and closed at 4,858.27 points from 4,891.86 points on Tuesday. The FTSE/ATHEX 20 blue chip index dropped 0.92 percent to 2,586.49 points. The FTSE/ATHEX Mid-40 moved up by 0.24 percent, while the FTSE/ATHEX 80 small-cap index fell by 0.40 percent. The FTSE/ATHEX International shrunk by 0.73 percent to close at 6,925.41 points. Coca-Cola HBC outperformed blue chips with a 1.20 percent rise, followed by Viohalco (up 0.90 percent), Motor Oil (0.89 percent) and the Postal Savings Bank (0.68 percent). The biggest losses were for Cosmote (down 2.96 percent), EFG Eurobank (2.35 percent), National Bank of Greece (1.49 percent) and Hellenic Technodomiki TEV (1.41 percent). Sectoral indices showed a mixed picture, with the greatest gains coming for financial services (up 1.10 percent) and food and drink (0.77 percent), while leading the losers were insurance (down 2.93 percent) and commerce (1.71 percent). Turnover came to -410.64 million, of which -186.14 million involved block trades.
