Blue chips, led by OTE, push the index higher
Greece’s ATHEX index yesterday added 1.2 percent, to 4,490.67. The FTSE/ATHEX 20 index of the country’s largest companies led the advance, adding 1.2 percent to 2,368.91. Investors expressed selective interest in a number of heavyweights, particularly OTE telecom, which gained 4 percent and accounted for more than half of the day’s total turnover of -545.6 million. Intralot advanced 3.7 percent, OPAP added 3.4 percent, Coca-Cola HBC rose 2.8 percent and National Bank gained 2 percent. Atlantic Supermarkets fell 2.8 percent, to -2.06. The grocery store retailer plans to sell 313,421 of its own shares at no less than -1.35, according to a stock exchange filing. The shares were acquired through a stock buyback plan and will be sold from today. Imako Media gained 1.1 percent, to -1.92. Petros Costopoulos increased his stake in the publishing company to 83 percent from 50 percent, according to a bourse filing on February 1 after the close of trading. Mytilineos Holdings climbed 0.8 percent, to -10.08. The metal and energy company acquired 27,000 of its own shares, part of a share buyback plan, on February 1, according to a filing yesterday.
