Ministry moves to inform consumers

The business world should be fully aware of the fact that better consumer protection means greater growth and, especially at a time when incomes and households are under strong pressures, that it is not wise for businesses to turn a blind eye. This statement was made on the occasion of World Consumer Day, March 15, by Development Minister Christos Folias and his deputy, Giorgos Vlachos. «Today, with the [higher] prices of oil and dry goods, in conjunction with the Greek economy’s inherent troubles, having a torque effect on competition and adversely impacting the cost of living, it is imperative for the state, the market and society to join forces in dealing with the current predicament,» they stressed. The Development Ministry’s General Secretariat for Consumers has prepared and is distributing a booklet titled «Search Better: Find out What You are Entitled To,» which contains information about consumers’ rights. The country’s food industry is making efforts to keep national inflation in line with the EU average, an announcement by the Federation of Hellenic Food Industries (SEVT) says, also pointing to consumers’ decisive role in product quality improvement.
