MIG, Mytilineos lead across-the-board gains

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) benchmark index closed higher for the first time in three days, adding 36.91 points, or 0.9 percent, to 4,261.29, in line with positive sentiment in other European markets. The FTSE/ATHEX 20 index of the country’s biggest companies increased 1 percent to 2,262.72 points. EFG Eurobank fell 64 cents, or 3.2 percent, to 19.38 euros, the steepest decline since April 11. Dresdner Kleinwort downgraded the stock to «hold» from «buy.» Toy retailer Jumbo gained 4.2 percent to 20 euros, its highest close in three months. The firm said sales for the 10 months through April advanced 18 percent, helped by spending during the Greek Easter holiday. Marfin Investment Group added 4.5 percent to 6.06 euros, the highest close since November 15. The buyout fund will join the MSCI Standard Index and Greece’s benchmark ATHEX index as of June 2. Industrial group Mytilineos added 3.8 percent, gaming monopoly OPAP ended 3 percent higher and OTE telecom advanced 2.7 percent. Metals group Viohalco lost 3 percent. Doppler made its debut on ATHEX’s Alternative Market, surging 23.8 percent to close at 3.12 euros. Turnover totaled 316 million euros. (Bloomberg, Kathimerini)
