Inflation debate

Economy and Finance Minister Giorgos Alogoskoufis confers with Interior Minister Prokopis Pavlo-poulos as lawmakers debated the country’s high inflation rate. Alogoskoufis attributed rising consumer prices to adverse international conditions and successive oil price hikes. ‘Whoever says the economy’s problems are not rooted in global inflation has no idea what is going on,’ the minister said. ‘The Greek economy, due to reforms, has managed to develop defenses against the crisis. But no economy can be fully protected against these developments.’
