Index closes at over 3,300 pts

Stocks on the Greek bourse continued their rise yesterday, albeit at a much more moderate pace than on Thursday, partly due to the US public holiday that made markets more idle than usual. The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 3,302.46 points, 0.40 percent higher than on Thursday. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index grew by 0.11 percent to 1,778.05 points, while the small-cap index declined. Blue chips presented a mixed picture, with the Public Power Corporation leading the way (up 4.15 percent), followed by Piraeus Bank (3.87 percent), the Coca-Cola Hellenic Bottling Company (3 percent) and Alpha Bank (2.03 percent). Heading south were Marfin Investment Group (down 2.87 percent), Hellenic Post Bank (2.45 percent) and Marfin Popular Bank (1.81 percent). Turnover reached a meager 206.1 million euros.
