Transport ministry goes green

Transport Minister Costis Hatzidakis (left) inaugurated yesterday a pilot program envisaging the creation of gardens on buildings belonging to the ministry. The first ‘green roof’ has been planted on an Athens Piraeus Electric Railway (ISAP) building in the capital and occupies over 400 square meters. The Transport Ministry also plans to plant ‘green roofs’ on another three of its buildings. Additionally, the minister said photovoltaic systems, each with a 20 KW capacity, will be installed on four ministry buildings by the fall. The program is expected to be extended to more facilities after the initial trial period.
