Summer sale season kicks off in Greece

Many Greeks went shopping yesterday, some by eco-friendly means of transport, on the first day of the summer sales season, which runs through to August 30. Some store owners reduced their prices a few days earlier in an attempt to stay one step ahead of the competition and offset losses from lower sales during the regular season, according to industry sources. Sale discounts are estimated to reach 70 percent, particularly for footwear. Price cuts will be up to 50 percent for clothing items but less generous for other consumer products such as household goods, industry sources added.
