Ruling opens door to plant
Energy and metals group Mytilineos Holdings and Endesa received permission to proceed with the construction of a 430-megawatt power plant in Greece after objections from an environmental group were rejected. Endesa Hellas, a joint venture between Athens-based Mytilineos and Spain’s Endesa, will continue development of the plant in Aghios Nikolaos, Viotia, 100 kilometers (62 miles) northwest of Athens. Metka, the Greek contractor in charge of the project, hopes to complete construction during 2009, it said in a filing to the Athens bourse. «Metka has already taken delivery of the key equipment, including the General Electric jet turbines, and will make every effort to ensure completion of the station’s construction within 2009. This plant is the second large-scale power plant of Endesa Hellas,» the company said. Endesa Hellas is aiming to secure energy production capacity in excess of 2,000 MW by 2012.
