Blue chips keep index afloat

Greek stocks had a mixed day yesterday as the market tried to reap some profits from the previous days’ rise, although blue chips started pulling the bourse higher in the latter half of the session. The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) closed at 3,512.80 points yesterday, a 0.20 percent rise from Wednesday. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index grew by 0.54 percent to 1,945.79 points. However, both the mid-cap and the small-cap indices registered a decline. Piraeus Bank outperformed among blue chips with 3.13 percent growth, ahead of OPAP (up 2.61 percent) and Alpha Bank (1.74 percent). OTE continued its slide with losses of 3.47 percent, followed by Coca-Cola HBC (down 2.54 percent), Marfin Investment Group (2.33 percent) and Viohalco (1.81 percent). Turnover reached 226.8 million euros.
