Changes to help upgrade colleges

Education Minister Evripidis Stylianidis in parliament yesterday as lawmakers debated changes to the private education sector. According to some industry estimates, private colleges are expected to attract a growing number of students in coming years due to the enhanced professional qualifications they will be offered, in line with European Union directives. Annual turnover at colleges is estimated to have been around 110 million euros in recent years but this figure is expected to double to around 220 million euros per year, according to sources. Some 25,000 students are believed to have graduated from Greece’s colleges since 1989.
