Positive mood propels stocks

The drop in oil prices and the positive sentiment on European markets following the release of better-than-expected first-half company figures helped Greek stocks gain significant ground in yesterday’s session. The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) closed at 3,442.31 points yesterday, a 2.38 percent rise from Monday. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index climbed 2.67 percent to 1,893.30 points. Apart from OPAP (down 0.43 percent), all blue chips posted gains yesterday, led by Coca-Cola HBC (up 6.12 percent), OTE telecom (5.05 percent), Viohalco (5.04 percent), ATEbank (4.27 percent) and National Bank (3.95 percent). The sectoral indices of food and drink (up 5.50 percent) and telecommunications (5.05 percent) outperformed the rest of the market. Turnover reached 288.3 million euros.
