Mixed day as mood swings

Despite some strong morning gains, stocks had a mixed day yesterday as the downturn in European markets affected the local bourse too. The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) closed at 3,438.82 points, a 0.10 percent drop from Tuesday. By mid-session, though, the index had reached 3,503.65 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index dropped by 0.15 percent to 1,890.45 points, although the mid-cap FTSE/ATHEX 40 index posted a rise of 0.57 percent. Leading blue chips was the stock of ATEbank (up 5.33 percent), followed by Hellenic Postbank (3.13 percent), OPAP (3 percent) and Titan cement (2.86 percent). The worst losses were for Marfin Investment Group (down 4.31 percent), Coca-Cola HBC (3 percent) and Alpha Bank (2.53 percent). Turnover reached 267.1 million euros.
