Fresh decline for Greek stocks

Stocks suffered significant losses during the last session of the week, with banks being the worst affected by the negative climate. The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) closed at 3,334.12 points yesterday, a 2.71 percent decline from Thursday. On a weekly basis, the index dropped by 1.30 percent. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index shrank by 3.10 percent to 1,821.27 points. The sectoral index of banks posted a decline of 4.09 percent. Alpha led banks southward, with a fall of 5.58 percent, ahead of EFG Eurobank (down 5.26 percent), National (4.25 percent), Piraeus (3.46 percent) and Marfin Popular (3.36 percent). Other notable losers were Intralot (5.35 percent) and Viohalco (3.05 percent). All sectoral indices registered losses, with raw materials rivaling banks (down 4.08 percent). Turnover reached 197.9 million euros.
