Stocks rise on selective buying
Stocks rose slightly yesterday ahead of the long weekend on selective buying in blue chips. The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) benchmark general index advanced 0.31 percent to 3,298.12 points. OTE telecom outperformed, adding 2.79 percent to 13.26 euros. Marfin Investment Group (MIG) also ranked among the winners, rising 1.42 percent to 4.28 euros. Banks eased 0.20 percent with investors waiting for two of the sector’s larger players – National and Alpha – to report second quarter earnings by the end of the month. Winners beat losers 98 to 90 with 59 shares unchanged, while turnover reached 140 million euros versus 161 million in the previous session. The Athens bourse will be close today due to the religious holiday the Dormition of the Virgin.
