Holiday promises not honored

Consumer group KEPKA said yesterday it has received 184 complaints over the last six weeks regarding the country’s tourism industry. The majority of complaints (76) were in respect to accommodation services that did not meet promises made to customers. False promises about the facilities on offer and non-existent views that had been included in the price were among complaints filed. The consumer group called on government ministries to step up efforts to help ensure better services are provided to consumers. «Pompous statements, expensive advertisements and beautiful beaches are not enough to draw tourists,» KEPKA said in a statement. The tourism industry accounts for about a fifth of Greece’s economy. Second on the list of grudges submitted to the group was air travel (50 complaints) followed by organized excursions (20 complaints). Consumers can contact KEPKA at 801.111.7200.
